For one of the simpler pleasures available in abalone dining and culinary adventure, try this abalone recipe for a classic abalone sandwich. It is said that there once was a time when one could find an abalone sandwich at a variety of coastal locations for around six dollars or so, and we don't have the abalone recipe for that version, but you will surely enjoy this one, derived from a sandwich of the twenty five dollar variety, pretty much the going rate nowadays.
Probably the ingredients alone for this abalone recipe will run you more than six bucks anyway, unless you are able to pluck your own abalone from off of a local underwater rock ledge. Cut some steaks to half an inch or so and tenderize accordingly. Dip in whole-wheat flour, egg, and then flour mixed with finely crushed breadcrumbs with garlic powder, black pepper, and salt, using classic abalone recipe shake-it-around-in-a-baggy style. Fry in peanut oil very briefly (no more than 22 seconds combined time for both sides), then place on a slice of thick toasted whole-wheat which you have coated with Red Raspberry Wasabi Mustard, adding two thin slices of cream cheese and finely shredded chives and fresh basil, adding a thin layer of horseradish spread to the top slice. Hmmm. maybe you could charge twenty-five dollars for a sandwich made with this abalone recipe.
